Freediving sessions are very different from regular snorkeling or scuba diving.
Freedivers usually spend long periods floating on the surface, relaxing, breathing up, and preparing for the next dive. During these moments the body cools down quickly.
If you become cold:
your muscles tense up
relaxation becomes difficult
breath-hold becomes shorter
risk of fatigue increases
For comfortable and safe freediving, your body should stay warm during the entire session.
This is why choosing the right thickness of wetsuit is extremely important.
Many freedivers visiting Dahab believe that 3mm neoprene is enough year-round, but during winter months this is rarely the case.
From December to April, water temperature in Dahab can drop to 21–24°C, and sessions often last 2–3 hours.
